Shouldn't that be AN Historic Day? ;) (Who's going to start up the Pedant Thread again?)
I kid. So glad to be back!
Anne
Finally! Someone who agrees with me that "an" should be used in front of words beginning with "h" if the accent isn't on the first syllable! (That's okay, Tom. A lot of people agree with your way of writing it too. I got into a lot of arguments about this on the old Pedants (Pedant's? ;) Thread.)
Welcome to the board, Anne, Just the One!
Always happy to join in with a bit of grammatical pedantry whether I'm right or not!!
It's good to be back, well done Chris and Amy!! 🤗👍
Thank you so much Amy and Chris.
To me Facebook never quite felt right; this does.

Thanks,

So, who's going to be brave enough to get the Games thread started...!!?!?
Hi Everyone. Glad to see you all here. :) :-*
Full disclosure: We are using a beta version of the forum software because the current release was just too old-school. It wasn't really responsive so people couldn't easily use it on their phones. I think that's going to be important in this day and age so I decided to take my chances with the beta. There are warnings all over the Simple Machine forum not to use the beta version in production. I hope nothing goes wrong, but if it does, I promise to get us back up and running as soon as possible. It is unlikely that we will lose any data in these cases, It will most likely just be a matter of problems with the interface and being down for a little bit.
This is just so wonderful! Thank you, Chris and Amy!!!
My profound thought for the day is that London in 32C (roughly 90F) weather is not a nice place to be.
That's it as it's just too hot for any more thoughts.
@Gordonb I concur... It's even too hot to type this repl.....
Thank you Amy and Chris!!!

I've been walking around Berlin all day singing "Too Darn Hot"! It's wretched.
Glad we scheduled our trip to London for the fall,
@JustTheOneAnne! So London is having a heat wave and Long Beach, CA, is surprisingly cool. That's a pleasant change.

Same here in Cleveland! And it's not cold until we hit -10F or so.
Hello, everyone! This is such a great thing for
@Chris L and Amy to do.
The board looks great, and works really well on my phone.
Oh, and I'm an "an" person, myself.
Hey,
@The Elusive $1.98 (AKA E-Doll ;) ). Glad to have another "an" person on board. We'll revive the use of "an" in front of unaccented aspirates (e.g., "h" words without an accent on the first syllable) by the sheer force of our numbers!

The weather here is going to get a lot hotter in late summer and early fall, so we've installed new A/C and an energy-saving Nest thermostat. It's hottest here in the LA area when it's cooling off for the rest of you. Fortunately, it's been an unusually cool year here so far.

Hey, Martin! We'll put out the plum pudding and roast goose, or whatever's appropriate. ;)

It's too hot to even function. If it hits 33 tomorrow I will pass out.

I'm sure
@Gordonb will correct me, but I would put it inside the inverted comma ... there was an article about this very topic (and inherent disagreements) in The Spectator a couple of weeks ago.

The general rule is that commas and periods go before the closing quote mark, but exclamation points and question marks go after. (Maybe we should put this in The Pedants Thread. When somebody starts The Pedants Thread. ;) )
I thought the comma only went inside when it's an actual quote, as in someone saying something. It does look funny outside the quote mark, though.

I say "Pedants Thread," i.e., a thread about pedants and for pedants but not actually belonging to them. "Pedants' Thread" is also considered acceptable, though (says the self-proclaimed expert ;) ).

According to a report I heard, that's the "shade temperature." In the sun it feels like 130F. But that's in Death Valley. Las Vegas at least has air conditioning. ;)

You're right that "an hibachi" doesn't sound right. But I think "a hibachi" (pronounced "uh hibachi") sounds even worse. (And it's more difficult to say.)
