Title: How Many Clocks Do You Have?
Post by: Chris L on Jul 02, 2017, 11:26 PM
I think we may have had a thread like this on the old board, but times have changed (so to speak) and the number of ways we can tell time keeps increasing. Without leaving your house,  how many devices do you have that show the time?

Two watches -- An Apple Watch and a solar-powered analog watch
Desktop computer
iPad
iPhone
Clock radio
Roku (which shows the time on its home screen)
XBox 360 (which shows the time on its download screen; I haven't checked the XBox One)
Microwave
Stove
Nest Thermostat (which shows the time when you press on it)
LG Smart TV (which shows the time on its Today app, which advertises shows)
Amazon Echo ("Alexa, what time is it?")

This doesn't even count devices Amy has and I'm sure I've forgotten something.

And how many of those adjust the time automatically for Daylight Saving Time vs. how many you have to still set the old fashioned way.

I have a whole bunch of devices that supposedly show the time, but I'm too lazy to set them when the power goes out.  Like the microwave.

Two watches (neither of them smart)
2 clock radios that I set, another that I don't, and I don't even listen to, so I should just give it away
Blu-Ray player
At least five clocks where the batteries have died
iPhone
Cordless phone with answering machine
Desktop computer
Laptop computer
2 compact stereo systems
1 atomic clock that doesn't reset itself automatically any more
Thermostat (not smart)
Microwave
Stove
Car
Kindle
Pocket watch that needs new batteries
Alarm system

One watch [FitBit, so like semi-smart?]
1 clock radio that lives in the kitchen
Stove
Microwave
Dumb phone
Droid tablet
Personal laptop
Work Laptop
The car that I generally am driving
The car that my wife is generally driving

And I think that's it. And I've realized now that we have no clocks permanently on the second floor of our townhouse. Hmm.

Fitbit
iPhone
iPad
MacBook
Standard Alarm Clock x 2
Radio alarm clock x 2
Wall clock x 3
Clock on my stereo

Think that's it ... I've got a couple of wristwatches that need their batteries replaced, so haven't counted those ...

Guess that makes an even dozen.

I forgot to mention my Kindle (though I was thinking of it while I was grabbing a snack from the kitchen in the middle of my post). So far, though, I think @artscallion is winning the clock competition by a healthy margin, even without Dan's contribution.

And I should mention that the Amazon Echo is actually two Amazon Echos plus an Amazon Tap.

To add to Chris's list (if we are doing this as a couple):

Coffee maker
Car
iPad mini
phone
MacBook Air
iMac
Nano
Nook
iPod (this belongs to Chris but he forgot it)

Edited to add:
About 4 watches (one of them is an Apple Watch) most of which I don't wear currently
Two timers on landscape lighting
A timer on the porch light
Sprinkler timer
Fountain timer

Not sure about:
Ring doorbell. Does it have it's own clock or does it get the time from the phone app?
Nest smoke detector. Same question.

As a couple I think we've now caught up with Paul and Dan. ;)

Okay, I decided the doorbell and smoke detector don't count because there's no actual clock on them or even in the apps that control them. But, I do have a few more:

Chromecast
iPad Pro (I mentioned the mini but forgot about this one which I actually use)
My grandfather's wind up pocket watch
pocketwatch.JPG

And Chris has a Nook eInk and a Nook tablet that he doesn't use.

You guys have way too many clocks.  I have about ten if you count all the computers/laptops/tablets, appliances, my car, and the single actual clock, an alarm clock radio by my bed whose radio nor alarm I don't think I've ever used.  I doubt any two of these clocks have ever shown exactly the same time.
