During our brief initial stay in London, before we take off across the UK, @AmyG and I have tickets to see The Ferryman by Jez Butterworth at the Royal Court Theatre. Anybody know anything about the production? We thought it looked interesting and wanted to see at least one non-Sondheim show while we're in town. Butterworth has a strong track record in theater and movies, and Sam Mendes is directing, so we figure it will be worth seeing.
But us, old friend,
What's to discuss, old friend?

I was just reading about it--the subject has to do with the IRA, and it's over 3 hours long!  Have fun!  Mind you, I'd see it.

From what I read, it did not sound boring at all. In fact, it sounds like it's kind of a wild ride.

Butterworth and The Royal Court are a perfect pairing. What date are you going? (The Royal Court is one of my favourite producing houses in London.)

AmyG

It's actually moving to the Geilgud in June. We are seeing it there October 4. My cousin who we are going with also praised the Royal Court.

October 4, right after we arrive. A night at the theater should help cure our jet lag. ;)

Coincidence, they just covered this on tonight's BBC News at Ten

Really? I should see if that's online. Did they interview Butterworth and/or Mendes?

Both!  Seems to be very well thought of

Glad to hear it! We had a hunch it would be.

It's being talked about as play of the year apparently

Sounds like we lucked out. I'm sure they opened the show just for us.

I believe tickets sold out on day one at the Royal Court location and they immediately made plans for the West End transfer.  I think it is scheduled to be in NY as well.  Good catch, Amy.
