It's too hot to even function.  If it hits 33 tomorrow I will pass out.

Thanks @ChrisL and @AmyG so much for bringing the board back.  It's great to be here!

It's very, very down.
But us, old friend,
What's to discuss, old friend?

I'm an an person, too.  ;)
Thanks Chris and Amy for putting the effort into getting us back together.
And yes, it is too darn hot!

I was taught "an", too. How about where I put that comma, though? *first post!*

I'm sure @Gordonb will correct me, but I would put it inside the inverted comma ... there was an article about this very topic (and inherent disagreements) in The Spectator a couple of weeks ago.

The general rule is that commas and periods go before the closing quote mark, but exclamation points and question marks go after. (Maybe we should put this in The Pedants Thread. When somebody starts The Pedants Thread. ;) )

I thought the comma only went inside when it's an actual quote, as in someone saying something. It does look funny outside the quote mark, though.

I would start it if I could remember if it's The Pedant's Thread, The Pedants' Thread or The Pedants Thread ...

You say quote mark, I say inverted comma. Potayto potahto?

You Brits (and Scots) get everything backwards. ;)

I say "Pedants Thread,"  i.e., a thread about pedants and for pedants but not actually belonging to them. "Pedants' Thread" is also considered acceptable, though (says the self-proclaimed expert ;) ).

Keep posting. We all have to start at the bottom again (except Administrators; we're better than gods ;) ).
