I feel even less like working today than I did yesterday, which is a shame, because I have so much more to do today. I am very much in the mood to eat lunch, but I want to wait for that because if I eat later, it will make the afternoon seem shorter.

Thank goodness it's Friday at least.

I was talking to a co-worker about this yesterday.  I am usually hungry enough to eat lunch after being at work for 4 hours but I prefer to wait until at least 5 hours because the 2nd half of my shift goes by much "faster" when I do that.
I no longer long for the old view!

That happens with our start-times when I'm painting: some shows start their workday at 6am, others at 7am, but pretty much everyone breaks for lunch at noon.  I've really come to appreciate 6am starts, not only because they mean a correspondingly earlier end-of-day (4pm instead of 5pm), but also because, as you say, the second half of the day flies by.  In fact, the earlier start time ends up leaving the afternoon literally only about half as long as the morning.

On the downside, it also means that if I'm trying to finish a project by the end of the day, I can't think of lunch as anything like the midpoint: things had better be well-along by noon, or else the mere three hours remaining after lunch may tend to fly by in a not-so-pleasant sense.
