I fixed the rotation issue on my iPad.  Somehow I had set the screen lock to "on" so it wouldn't rotate.  Google helped me solve the mystery.  I shall add this to my resume when I apply for a job with the Apple Genius Bar.   ;D
I no longer long for the old view!
