That wasp must have disliked me. Overnight the swelling increased as did the pinkness on the top of the foot and when the pus started we headed for the hospital in Fethiye our nearest (20 minutes away) Big Town.

Remarkably efficient consultation- the sting had caused an severe allergic reaction and infection so they cave me an antibiotic shot in my backside and sent me off to the chemist with a prescription for oral drugs and some cream. The contrast that we've noticed in the health care system between here in Turkey and in London is astonishing and makes me feel rather angry and frustrated that things are so bad in London. Admittedly I had to pay here, but as my total bill for everything came to approx US$25 I did not feel particularly hard done by.

Otherwise life is pretty beautiful...

If it were in the U.S., the first thing they'd ask is what kind of insurance you have, and then let you know that they don't take it, so you need to go someplace else. :(  And if by some miraculous event, they take your insurance, you'd still owe a copay of $250.

I'm running into problems trying to see a specialist who doesn't take my insurance and won't take self-payment.  :P

@Gordonb - How's your foot feeling?  Glad you didn't tough it out another 24 hours and went in to get medical attention.  Hopefully, you're on your way to a full recovery and your toe has learned it's lesson and won't be taunting wasps in the future.
I no longer long for the old view!
