Marie and Dan live in Burbank.   They can see the Verdugo fire easily from their house.  It's very scary.

I've had fire on my mind because Will and I are planning to go to southern Oregon in a few weeks and may decide to cancel due to the wildfires there.  We were planning to go to Crater Lake National Park (shrouded in smoke lately) and to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (where they have cancelled the outdoor performance at least 4 times recently due to poor air quality).  i feel sympathy for the people who live there, but it seems foolish to deliberately head in to those conditions.  Interestingly, the theater tickets are refundable if you cancel at least 7 days in advance.

We're flying into Portland, which is 5 hours north and less affected by fire (although recently plagued with temps over 100) and could do a coastal/wine country trip instead.
