I was teaching in Miami for the past two weeks.  I actually got back on Saturday but today is the first day I sat down at my computer.  I really dislike typing on my phone or tablet so I usually wait to do things which require typing until I am back on my computer.    At the end of the week I will leave to visit my mom for Christmas.  With all this travel the month of December seems like it will be over in the blink of an eye.
I no longer long for the old view!

I'm with you, Tom.

I resisted texting for years, then eventually started for work (and later noticed a distinct dropoff in the use of my phone as an actual phone, for phone calls).

It'll come as no surprise that my text messages can occasionally be relatively lengthy, for texts.  But the fact of typing them (mostly) on my phone or tablet screen tends to keep their length to a brief sentence or two at most.  (And this actually tends to hold true even if I'm texting from my laptop, where back-and-forth conversations can go faster).

But for writing here, or for writing email, I almost always use my laptop.  I may have become reasonably proficient with small touchscreen keyboards over the years, but they'll never be my first choice.

How was the weather in Miami? Today was sunny and very warm--into the 60s. I spent the day in Longmont, Colorado, which is something like 15 minutes north of Boulder and something like one hour from my house. Went to a wonderful Hawaiian BBQ place (there was absolutely no one else in the entire place) and had some BBQ chicken and some Spam musubi. I went to a great thrift store and found a 5-CD overview of musicals from Columbia Broadway for $12. It's got everything from the Ziegfield Follies of 1919 to Wicked, and they're all taken from the original cast recordings. I believe I've maybe already got one-fourth of what's on this collection, and most of what I have is from the last two discs, which cover approximately 1968 to 2003. It's a collection that it looks like someone took a lot of time carefully curating.

Another thing I really didn't need to buy, except I did.
