R.I.P. Gavin Creel.

I think his Hollis, on this OCR (which is to say, this song) was my introduction to Creel — even, if memory serves, before his Jimmy on the Thoroughly Modern Millie OBCR, although that would mean I must've waited almost two years after the Millie album's release to buy and listen to it, which seems unlikely but not altogether unimaginable, especially at that point in my life.  In whatever order, I enjoyed both cast recordings and kept his name in mind as a talent worth watching out for, though I never saw either production.  In fact, I think his Kodaly in She Loves Me may have been the only work of his I ever managed to see onstage, once in person and then again later when it was livestreamed.  (That capture can currently be viewed on BroadwayHD).

Today is October 1, and I am seeing a production of Hamlet tonight. It should be an especially long night because I'm planning to stay for the talkback.

I saw Creel play Hollis when I saw Bounce. Unfortunately he didn't leave much of a lasting impression on me :( , probably because Howard McGillis and Richard Kind left so much of an impression. Fortunately I've got the cast recording to remind me.

Richard Kind was also very nice after the show, signing autographs as he was waiting to ride away on his bike.

Hamlet was boring. :( It was set in Denmark around the year 1200, and everybody had the same hairstyle (the wigs were amazing), so it was hard to keep track of who was whom. I had Claudius and Horatio mixed up. It reminded me of The Lord of the Rings. I know I dozed off just before intermission, and I was having a hard time keeping still for Acts IV and V. :(

In other news, there is now fraud on my new credit card account, a month and a half after the last time, so I again get to try to remember all the places where I just changed the number.  >:(
