The car got some attention from me today.  It got gas.  It got a new rear wiper.  It got one quart of oil.....because it was low and I plan on having the oil changed in the next week, possibly tomorrow if the dealer doesn't charge too much.  I also remember/was reminded by the car that the flashing "cruise" control light in combo with the check engine light is a way of drawing attention to the oil situation.  The oil light wasn't on yet but it was flickering when I braked from a high speed such as the off ramp when leaving the highway.  I was/am overdue for an oil change but I got full synthetic oil last time and wanted to see how long it would last.  I'm not sure it's worth the increase in cost from mixed conventional & synthetic.

What are the advantages of synthetic oil? I honestly don't know. I just know my oil change place wants to sell me synthetic, and I don't know if there's actually a good reason for it.

It doesn't break down as quickly as real oil.  Also the molecules are all the same size; I guess there can be slight variance in real oil.  This makes the oil flow more smoothly and is less wear on the engine.  I don't know that my car really needs synthetic yet but since I don't change the oil every three months I figured it would be worth a try.  As your car gets more miles on it I think it is suggested to switch to synthetic or a blend because of the lessor wear and tear on the engine vs regular oil.
