Its days like today that I miss you all and this board so much. Fun Home closed yesterday and I am an emotional wreck. I would have loved to have been able to turn to this board to share and have deep discussions about the work. I don't know why I didn't try, but any time I come here the board is extremely quiet.
I am also baking and cooking a lot and miss those discussions as well.
I just miss this incredible group of like minded crazies. This place was a special gift. So I am here. Can you feel my heart saying HI?

No blues like post-show blues when you've given your heart and soul. Have you got any pics from the production Aileen? How about posting them here for us to check out? X
Morals tomorrow

So lovely to see you here Aileen. I find the Facebook format too onerous to use for 'conversations' - here it's much easier. I did follow your "Fun Home" story with interest. It made me dust off my copy of the cd ( actually that's not true as I no longer have the cd as it wasn't a "Sondheim" so it didn't qualify for the move to Turkey, so I dusted off my digital copy!). I'm not yet enamoured by the music but I will continue and maybe it'll grow on me. Which role did you play? The adult 'child'?

mrssondheim

Adult Alison yes. So I was on stage the whole time which was quite a journey.
I hit home with me as Bruce very much had my fathers violent temperament. Always eggshells with him.
My mother was very much Helen.
It's very much the home life I grew up with, so it spoke to me very deeply.
I truly felt like my parents were present every night.

I just ordered a new scanner because I can't get my old one to work with my laptop. :( It's very frustrating. Fortunately it wasn't all that expensive (considering what it could have been), and it's a business expense. But it seems like a big waste to have this scanner that is perfectly usable, and I can't use it. (For the record, I used this scanner with my now-dead desktop computer for eight years.) I am having the same problem with my wonderful 20-year-old laser printer that doesnt' want to be recognized any more, and I know I should replace that too, but it's more expensive, and I'm a lot more attached to the old one than I am to my old scanner.

And that's how my Monday has been.

Welcome back, Aileen! I feel like the way to liven up the board is just for us all to come back. I wish I could have seen your show.

I had a rough week last week. A dear family friend passed away at the young age of 64. She was very sick the past few months but wouldn't let anyone talk about it on Facebook. :/

"I know you..."  Hi, Aileen!

Fun Home sounds like a fantastic experience, and you ROCKED that haircut.  (Definitely on my Want-To-Design-Someday list; the original production ended up being my most-revisited show in many years, or perhaps ever -- I did see an awful lot of Les Mis as a teen, but I think Fun Home broke even that record.  As you said, the show had certain personal resonances for me that just drew me back again and again).

I'm with @MartinG : I'd love to see more pics.  I don't know about you, but sharing pictures of especially rewarding projects (along with writing about them ad nauseam) has become a kind of post-show ritual for me over the years, and I think it's partly a way of dealing with those closing-night blues.  (Or in my case, often, those opening-night blues, since I'm usually out the door once the show is up).

Given the remarkable sympathy and generosity of the readers on this board, I'd recommend it unreservedly.

(Also because I just wanna see -- and read -- more about your work on Fun Home).   ;D

Hey, Aileen, er, @mamarose! It's great to see you here! The reason the board is so quiet is that people come here and don't post because it's extremely quiet, which creates a kind of Catch 22. I really need to get busy starting threads other than the Dailies, which we have plenty of people (but especially Tom and Kathy) who are willing to start. If some of the rest of you want to jump in and do the same, or respond to ones that I start, then we'll create the illusion that we're busy, which will then create the reality that we're busy.

Or something like that. Gotta think of something to post about....
But us, old friend,
What's to discuss, old friend?
